Putting Social Mining in your Radar

Putting Social Mining in your Radar

It’s easy to get caught up in charts and token prices. But sometimes, it's the people behind the screen who really light up the space. One of them? Melvin, better known to the Social Mining community as @MellieMan, a field engineer by day and a top contributor in hubs like RWAinc and Autonomys by night.

Who Is MellieMan?

Behind the X handle is Melvin, a 33-year-old civilian radar engineer in the Dutch Navy—who just stepped into a new role: father to his newborn. What makes Mellie’s story unique is his ability to merge a highly technical career with a creative spark that fuels his Social Mining journey.

“In 2021, I started diving deeper into IDOs and got involved with several on launchpads like Seedify and Polkastarter. I was familiar with IDOs, but ILOs and social mining were completely new to me!”

That changed when I began promoting RWAinc on X. I first discovered RWAinc through their IDO on Decubate’s launchpad, and while promoting them, I stumbled upon a post about social mining and their upcoming ILO. It immediately caught my interest—and that was the start of my journey with DAOLabs. No regrets!”

It’s that blend of personal growth, creative freedom, and genuine community that makes the experience truly fulfilling for Mellie

What Sets Him Apart?

Consistency. Creativity. Community engagement. Mellie balances a full-time job, family life, and hub tasks with just 5–10 hours per week, often carving out time at night or weekends. His secret? Quality over quantity.

Even while on vacation in Crete, he brought his laptop to stay active. His dedication has paid off, he’s now a top Social Miner in the RWA Hub.

“I try to stick to the rules, like using the official logo, font, and brand colors, basically following RWAinc’s style guide. I also aim to finish tasks quickly so there’s more time for social engagement on or with my posts. The rewards for engagement really add up to your total points.”

Plus, I’m active in RWAinc’s Telegram and make sure people know my name. I think that’s what sets my approach apart from other social miners. Not sure! haha” He added

He credits his success to:

  • Following brand guidelines closely
  • Delivering designs quickly for better post engagement
  • Staying active in Telegram and community spaces
  • Learning from other miners and staying curious

Innovation Meets Imagination

What’s unique about Mellie is how he applies his engineering mindset to design work. Whether it’s creating content, posters, or infographics, he’s constantly leveling up his skills and having fun doing it.

“I love getting creative, and that might come from my field. As an electrical engineer, I design stuff too, but in electronics. It’s given me a creative brain, and I just find it fun to write content and make graphic designs.”

Since social mining rewards you for your work and involves a big community of creative people, it’s extra fun to keep improving and sharing your creative stuff. He added ”

He’s not shy about reaching out to others, asking questions, or experimenting with tools. For him, Social Mining isn’t just a task, it’s a sandbox for growth.

Challenges and Solutions

Living in the Netherlands means no access to Binance, but Mellie adapts, posting content on LinkedIn or Facebook when needed.

“Certain requirements can be tricky though, like posting on Binance Square, since Binance is no longer allowed in the Netherlands. In those cases, I adapt by sharing on platforms like LinkedIn or Facebook, even if it’s not specifically requested, to show extra initiative.”

It might help if you consider offering alternative platforms for tasks, as not everyone can access the same ones due to regional restrictions or maybe other reasons. This could make it easier for people to fully complete tasks and stay engaged!”

Final Words from Mellie

If you’re new and wondering whether Social Mining is worth your time, here’s Mellie’s advice:

“Speaking from my own experience, with social mining you get involved in a super fun and creative way with all sorts of creative people from around the world! That alone is already awesome!”

You get paid for the work you do, which you can do remotely and there are chances to join ILOs with rewards that are seriously solid!
