Finding Her Way to Social Mining

Jacinta Chinwe Okonkwo or Chinwe’s journey began during a particularly difficult moment in her life. As a final-year Nursing student, she faced the daunting reality of raising funds for her exams, projects, and daily living, all on her own. 

‍"I have been my own sponsor through school. Then my younger brother who saw me in deep thoughts, told me about his friend @OluleyeVictor6  who does an online job that I should chat him up

‍And that I did , and I was introduced to social mining, even though I have my doubts at the onset, I was willing to give it all it takes

Besides, I have no other option" she shared with a laugh.

Through determination and the support of the community, she began to find her footing and realized she had found more than just an earning opportunity, she found a family.

Finding Belonging and Building Skills

At first, Chinwe approached Social Mining cautiously but through the African local group and initiatives like the Sunday Teaching Series, she developed her skills even further.

As the Nigerian proverb says, "When you get to a strange place, you stand with one leg first." She observed, learned from others, and slowly built her confidence. 

Friendly mentors like @Zeal464, @EzeMichael, and @GodwinEze6 welcomed her warmly, and soon, she knew, she belonged here.

‍‘’Then I proceeded to our African group, @Akinde5  and @Arolee_bankz gave me the same treatment.. And I said to my myself, yes I truly belong here, I have found another family, my social mining family’’ she added

She didn’t just learn: She flourished! She took inspiration from the amazing community members and put her heart into every task. 

‍

‍Overcoming Challenges and Staying Motivated

Chinwe faced setbacks too. Losing her first Twitter account was a heavy blow, but her resilience shone through. Instead of giving up, she rebuilt from scratch, fueled by inspiration from fellow miners and her personal desire for growth.

‍‘’When I lost my first twitter account, I felt like giving up but when I remember other great social miners who must have faced one thing or the other, I became more resilient. I created another account, built it, paid for a subscription and kicked it off.

‍On low points, yes I did get some at one point in time, but I was not deterred

When Daniel gave me the ZEAL code, I bought into it. I studied other social miners, how they do their work, how they write their articles…’’ she shares 

Also balancing the demands of nursing school with Social Mining wasn’t easy. But looking at role models like his friends, who managed medical school alongside Social Mining, kept her motivated.

A New Definition of Success

Social Mining is more than just a side hustle for Chinwe. It's a cornerstone of her success story. Thanks to her earnings, she’s been able to register for important exams and even support her younger sibling’s education.

‍And beyond monetary rewards, I have acquired a skill that will live with me forever "designing and writing skills" and I've never been more proud of myself

‍If I could acquire this while still adding academics to it, what will happen when I am done schooling

‍Well we will see about that. But all I can say is that The DAO Labs is the place to be, I am happy that I found it , I am grateful for the family It has given me’’ she share
